Sherwood S. Smith

Sherwood S. "Spike" Smith , 85, of Union Hill Road, Lehighton, Franklin Township, Pennsylvania, died peacefully on Monday morning, September 27, 2021, in his home.  He was the husband of Judy A. (Kresge) Smith since August 26, 1989.  Born in Kunkletown, Eldred Township, Monroe County, he was a son of the late Stanly and Anna (Hawk) Smith.

He was a forklift operator for the Supradur Manufacturing Company, Wind Gap, until retiring in 1998.  He was a 1955 graduate of the former Polk Township High School, Kresgeville, and a member of St. Matthew's United Church of Christ, Kunkletown.  An avid sports enthusiast, he played for the Kunkletown Baseball Team.  Sherwood enjoyed basketball, bowling at the Sokol Hall, Palmerton, and following all Philadelphia professional sports.  He enjoyed fishing and hunting in his spare time.

Survivors: Widow.  Two daughters, Trudi, wife of Robert Frehulfer of Brodheadsville, and Traci of Kunkletown.  Two sons, Bryan, and his wife Lynne Fuhrer, of Mount Bethel, and Patrick, and his wife Marty Papay of Jacksonville, FL.  Three grandchildren, Kathrine, Seth, and Lauren.  Four great-grandchildren, and seven nieces and nephews.  Nephew, Eric and his wife Tania Kresge and their 2 sons, and Niece, Jamie and husband Ben Heinze and their son, Tyler.  He was predeceased by sister, Gladys Gougher, a brother Ronald Smith, and a niece.

Services: Memorial Service, 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at Miller Funeral Home, 137 Fairview Street, Lehighton, PA 18235.  Interment will be private .  Call, 10:00-11:00 a.m., on Saturday.  Online Condolences may be left for the family at: www.schislerfuneralhomes.com .
