Stephen M. Zappe

Stephen Merritt Zappe, 78 of Danville, died unexpectedly on Monday, January 26, 2026, at his home. Stephen was born in Allentown, PA on December 29, 1947, a son of the late Stephen and Florence (Stehley) Zappe. Stephen was a 1965 graduate of Whitehall-Coplay High School and Electronics Training Center where he earned an associate's degree in Electronics.

Stephen served his country as a member of the United States Army Corps of Engineers and was stationed in Vietnam from 1968-1970. Upon his honorable discharge, his rank was a Specialist #5. On May 9, 1970, Stephen M. Zappe and Kathleen Jones married, and began building a beautiful family and life together. Stephen worked for ATT for thirty-seven years, before his retirement in 2004.

Stephen was a devoted husband, father and Pop Pop, who loved his family dearly. He especially loved spending time with his grandson, Merritt. Stephen enjoyed basketball. He was a HAM Radio Operator and a member of the Columbia/Montour Amateur Radio Club.

Stephen was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Florence (Stehley) Zappe of Fullerton, PA.

Stephen is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Kathleen (Jones) Zappe; son, Mark Zappe of Hellertown; grandson, Merritt Zappe; brother, Timothy G. Zappe and his wife, Barbara of Whitehall; and sister, Ellen Rahn of Palmerton.

Family and Friends are invited to a Visitation on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, from 12:00-1:00 PM at Schisler Funeral Home, 2119 Washington Avenue, Northampton, PA. Stephen’s funeral service will be officiated by Rev. Martin Nuscher and will begin at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at Garden of Peace Cemetery, 410 Fullerton Ave., Whitehall, PA with full military honors.
