William J. Molchany, Sr., 89, of Chapel Street, North Catasauqua, Pennsylvania, died Monday afternoon, August 1, 2016, at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Muhlenberg Campus, Bethlehem. He was the husband of Mary T. (Filipovits) Molchany for over 66 years. Born in Egypt, Whitehall Township, he was a son of the late James G. and Susan (Budihas) Molchany.
William was employed as a Section Chief for the former Western Electric Corporation, in Allentown, PA, for 38 years, retiring in 1987. He served as Mayor of North Catasauqua from 1970-1982. A member of St. John Fisher Catholic Church, North Catasauqua, he served as Eucharistic Minister, choir member, caretaker, and President/Charter Member of the church's Young at Heart Group. Previously, he was a member of the Holy Name Society, and a former treasurer of Cub Pack Troop #51, St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, North Catasauqua. A 1945 graduate of the Northampton Senior High School, he served in the US Navy in WWII, the Pacific Theatre, and later was reactivated for Korea, serving with the USS Chemung, achieving the rank of BMG2(t). William was a member 4th Degree, of the Knights of Columbus, Calvary Council #528, Allentown, and served as a past Grand Knight, and past District Deputy. He was a member of the Catholic War Veterans, American Legion, Catasauqua Post, and recipient of 4 Chaplain Awards, Western Electric Telephone Pioneers, and was a past president of the Catasauqua Exchange Club, and a charter member of the Suburban YMCA.
Survivors: Wife, Mary. Daughter, Ann Marie wife of Thomas Pfugler of North Catasauqua. Sons, William J., Jr. and wife Connie of North Catasauqua, Anthony M. and wife Diane of Whitehall. 7 grandchildren: Elizabeth wife of Eric Ochlak, Scott Pfugler, Anthony and wife Colleen Molchany, Elisa Molchany and fiancé Carmine Pellosie, Mark Molchany, Samantha wife of Charles Fisher, and Kelcie Molchany. Great-grandson, Daniel Molchany. Sister, Dorothy Abelovsky of Kunkletown. Brother, Joseph of Allentown. Several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Robert and Jacob.

Call, 7:00-8:30 p.m., Thursday, August 4, 2016 and 8:30-9:30 a.m., Friday, at Schisler Funeral Home, 2119 Washington Avenue, Northampton, PA 18067. Entombment at Assumption BVM Mausoleum, Cherryville Road, Northampton, PA.
