Winifred J. Markwich

Winifred J. Markwich , (Winnie) 98, of Allentown, PA, formerly of Center Valley, PA, entered into eternal life on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Parkland Manor in Allentown, PA.  She was born on June 8, 1925 in Allentown, PA, the daughter of the late Clarence F. Shafer and the late Ruth C. (Hummel) Schafer formerly of Cementon, PA. She was the wife of the late Robert P. Markwich with whom she shared 66 years of marriage until his passing 2018.

After graduating from William Allen High School she started her working career with Bell Telephone as a switch board operator but soon was promoted to information operator. After many years with Bell, she went on to work for Mack Trucks, Allentown as an executive secretary but ended her career from Lehigh Structural Steel, Allentown in 1989. With a continued desire to learn she then obtained her certification in reflexology which she practiced only on family and friends. She will always be remembered for her kind, loving, generous nature and the fulfillment she received by spending time with her family.

Survivors: She is survived by her, daughter, Patrice S. wife of William Strohl of Cherryville, PA, son, Todd D. Markwich and life long partner Joanne Hamlin of Greencastle, PA, 2 granddaughters; Stephanie (Lilly) wife of Charles Powell of Whitehall, PA, Nadine (Lilly) wife of Andy Rinehimer of Alburtis, PA, great-grandson, Hunter of Whitehall, PA. along with many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Lamar in 1996 and  George in 2023.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday September 30, 2023 at 2:00 PM at the Schisler Funeral Home, 2119 Washington Avenue, Northampton, PA 18067.  Family and friends may call from 1:00 PM until time of service. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
